Hi All,

Im after some advice with regards finish my electrical qualifications but here is some back story before i get to my question. I left school and began working as an apprentice and worked doing this for 2 years whilst in college on day release for my apprenticeship. Unfortunately i was laid off with no qualifications to speak of so put myself through college of evenings for 2years to achieve my NVQ L2. I have since been looking for work in the industry so that i can finish my final year but with no such luck in two years of trying and now im coming upto the age of 24 i feel that the boat for an apprentice as well and truly left the harbor although i have been willing to take sacrifices in order to get into one of these positions.

So basically my aim in the long run is to finish my last year in college to earn my NVQ L3 and become a fully qualified electrician but in order to do this i have to be employed in the industry but although i have been willing to pay all course fees myself and working for minimum wage nothings is coming my way. Is it possible to start a company myself and put myself through the course is id technically be employed in the industry and have the worked signed of by a fully qualified electrician that i know who is self employed? Or is there another way i could pursue this as to finish this qualification means everything to me.

Thanks for any help is much appreciated if you need any more information please do ask.

Phill

I think some people have completed the NVQ when self employed and used themselves as the managerial signature, however some places may not like this, but in some cases this is the only option. If you were starting on your own would you be able to get jobs to cover the range of tasks required and would you be competent to do them?

Other that that it is continuing to attempt to get employed, try a range of companies, even ones who use electricians tangentially.

Good luck
