Hi guys, basically I've found myself at the ripe old age of 32 and stuck in a deadbeat job with little to no prospects ....

So I think its time I got qualified and became an electrician.
I live in central London and have thus been leaning towards commercial and industrial installation. Even HV stuff as I feel this is "where the money is" ... So any advice welcome. Ideally I could see myself doing work like this

Electrician / BTS Electrician / C& G 2391 Electrician Job in London

So needing something like C&G 2391 certification, JIB approved and 17th edition.

Question is where do I start ? Is there anywhere in London that stands out as being the best place to train !?

Cheers dom

Welcome to the forum.

You initially want to start on the basic understanding of electrical theory and progress from there.
Your least expensive but probably best option is to look at your local colleges for courses. Probably your best bet is to enroll on the City and guilds 2357, though EAL also do an equivalent course.
You can cover the first two years without being in electrical employment and then you would need to gain employment, probably as a mate or trainee, in the electrical industry so that you can cover the practical performance aspects of preparing a portfolio of evidence.
This will gain you the NVQ3 which is the de facto standard for electrical competence.
This will allow you to gain the JIB electrician card.
Have a look on the ECScard website to learn more about this.
From this base you can then do the 17th Edition and the 2394 and 2395 (the last two are what the 2391 has changed to).

This website is slightly out of date but does give a few pointers on direction but check the current qualifications with the city and guilds website.
It is also worth having a look below these posts for similar threads which may provide more information and alternatives, but note the date of the posts in case the information is out of date as qualifications change rapidly.

Sorry I am not familiar with training centres in London.

Good luck with the career change.
