Hello,

Got a job to price for downlights but there is insulation in the cavity (ive fitted downlights a few times but not in insulation). The downlights are 240v 50w halogens they want installing but to price i need to take into account if i need to also install like a halogen mitt.

So the question is, with 50w halogen bulbs in the ceiling would i need a MITT (fire guard or whatever). Could i move insulation 1M from each fixing? would i be best using lower energy halogens to avoid need for a MITT or LED lighting?

Any help would be great

Cheers

just get the insulation away from the cans......give it a radius of about 300mm......that should sort it.....you could use fire rated cans n all.....is there a room above?....if so then go for fire rateds....

Well if your intending of fitting fires in the ceiling, then either moving insulation away or fitting mitts(?), it's one or 'tother

Moving the insulation is obviously the cheapest method, but is prone in the future to be move back over. Fitting protection is the more permanent solution, but will cost.

LEDs are an option but again when one does finally blow or client doesn't like the light , will it be replaced with an halogen

Personally I wouldn't fit them, but I'm an ole f**t. I'd go with the protection
