Fluke 1653 or Megger MFT1553?

Re the Fluke 1653 - is the extra cost over the 1652 justified?

I have used the fluke a lot and I personally prefer it to the megger but a lot of people don't. As for the difference between the 1652 & 3 - it is something I have been debating for a while in terms of justifying the extra cost.

Have a 1652 and just brought a MFT 1552 I do like the fluke with all the extra features for phase rotation etc but the the reading do vary when trying to obtain a true Ze. The MFT1552 is fast and will do most things I require so will use whichever tester is more suited to the tests required on any particular instalation http://www.electriciansforums.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I use the Fluke 1653 & have also used the megger.
Both are good & do all that you require, personally I stick with the Fluke but it's each to there own.

Get a 1653 at the moment and get a T140 Fluke - Test and Measurement Equipment plus

1 x Fluke TD02 Electrical Installation Testing Minor Works Certificate book.
1 x Fluke TD03 Periodic Inspection Report book.

I zero the leads every time , no probs , but occasionally when I do a reading i get 0 ohms. F ANNOYING. \I can only reckon it's something to do with the grip at the end of the lead. apart from that 1653 is the nuts. comfy , easy to use and drop proof!

Yeah second the nulling leads problem on 1553 is frustrating
Used fluke on my part P course and then brought megger on site1553 for using the software when doing PIR's
Do miss extra on screen functions of fluke
Also megger made in britain - so hopefully quick 2 repair
Heard that local megger rep will lend a megger while yours in for repair or calibration (from more than one source- dont know how true this is)
Need to make up some test gear for megger to make life easier when testing..
Also switched probe on megger is cumbersome - flukes much tidier

well my lead on my 1653 that has the test button on it has gone back to fluke yet again as its stopped working. this now being the 3rd time

im not impressed.
