Might I be so bold- If I am to invest in becoming a GD provider, I will be making a service charge on installers work- similar to subbing work out at the moment. How on earth are we going to make any money if we don't do this!?

On the point, How on Earth can you charge for a GD assessment? We want the customers to do this remember

I believe the GD assessment will be paid for as a kick back from either the GD installer or provider, but presumably only if the person goes ahead with some work.

The buck stops with the provider, they are at the top of the hierarchy so they need to make some money. The way I see it, if I do go down the Provider route, I'm gonna need a big marketing budget to keep the assessors and installers in work otherwise the GD will fail. How much the GP makes is down to 'Market Forces'. Competition will come and drive down prices, remember PV :P

I think the money in the green deal will be doing lots of small jobs local.

If your a provider then you make the green deal plans but they have to apply to the golden rule.
each jon not going to have major profits I dont think,

GDA will either work on price per Assessment and charge the Providers or installers I guess.
because an installer could get a GDA to do an assessment then take the assessment to a provider to get the work done .

theres many options I losing my mind.

is the funding delayed to jan 2013 now????

do you think more dealys are likely??

Works cost for green deal I pulled these off a few epc's these are estimated cost of green deal measures .
Cavity wall 500-1500 saves 834
Floor insulation 800-1200 saves 96
Draught proofing 80-120 saves 87
30mm jacket 15-30 saves 231
Replace boiler 2200 –300
Solar heating 4000 – 6000
Internal – external wall insulation – 4000-14000 saves 597
Fan assisted storage heaters 1200-1600
Loft insulation 350

I can not rememeber I did it a while back while researching.

Does any body own a cavity wall insualtion blowing machine?

Or do you know where a decent / small / and fairly cheap ones are for sale?

my friend had cavity wall insulation done they drilled a hole and put in the hole a telescopic rod put in the insulation, there way of doing it. the insulation got into the chimney flue and filled it up,when he put his fire on his co2 detectors were going off!! room full of fumes etc transco came out switched of the gas, he then had this company back to sort out the problem and they re inburssed him £500,blaming the way the house was built years ago.
not worth going to jail for is it.
imo its ok doing cavity insulation as long as you know the chimney is completely sealed.

It costs in the region of 30k to set up a cavity team - tools, van etc and margins are in the region of 10% that's why you don't see many small insulation businesses, especially now Cert is finishing. You need to be trained to BBA standard which doesn't take long. I believe second hand machines can be picked up for around 10k but you need quite a big van (luton at a minimum) if you're planning to do it for a while because of the weight of the machine.

It's not practical to use an existing van for the machine taking it out when it's not needed - it needs to stay in place, hence the 30k potential set up costs because you need a dedicated van. Most installers use a class 3 van so it can hold enough material for a couple of days on the road. Teams of 2 installers knocking their pan in on average 3 bed houses can install 3 jobs a day but there's not a lot of care taken and they need to be close together.

Loft insulation and draught proofing are a lot lower risk  the drop off in insulation once cert is finished is going to be so big that a lot of installers are going to be giving it away to keep staff employed - Fit all over again in the insulation industry.

These problems should have been identified at survey. Checks on each elevation with a borescope and internal checks would have identified the fire. Shoddy work, but not the first and I bet the £500 hurt when they would only be making in the region of £50 on the job.

From the above,

Are the Green Deal Providers (who will pay the Installers) going to need to be CIS registered .......

So that means an advance 20% deduction off the labour (for most installers) and hence a breakdown of labour and materials to be supplied to the Green Deal Provider ...... and then all your subbies will need to be CIS registered...
