Hi Everyone, my name's Drew!

Left the RAF in 1997 after 10 Years' Service as a General Technician (Electrical.)
And for one reason or another didn't follow my Trade in to Civilian Life.

So since then I've pretty much either been an Overseas Entertainer and Bus or Lorry Driver.
Did my 2330 Level 2 at Hartlepool College a few years ago but then took it no further owing to various reasons, to many to list!

However, becoming increasingly fed up at my ever expanding waistline, and basic HATRED of driving HGV I have retrained, requalified and gained my 17th Edition (amended) my Part P and my 2392 as well!

So I'm pretty chuffed with myself as I have every intention of either setting up as Self Employed in the Area (East Durham) or finding work with an Employer, though the former is my preferred choice.

I've been lucky, I've done quite a few jobs since I got my Quals through Word of Mouth and they've all been relatively pleasant experiences!!
And I'm getting one or two calls a week enquiring if I can do a job, most of which I've had to turn down because of the "Day Job."
I've invested a helluva lot of time, effort and Money in to this, and am determined to make it a success.
I'm not interested in undercutting or competing with anyone, nor am I remotely interested in anything other that Domestic Electrical Work at the moment.

My question is, for those of you who live in the NE Area, and are Self Employed, is how are you finding things at the moment?
Busy? Steady? Dead?

Don't want to tell my present employers to Jog On ( though God knows I SOOOO WANT TO,) unless I can be sure I can feed, clothe and support my family.
Common sense says stay with the day job and ease your way in me Old Son, but I don't want a reputation for being a DEI that is never available.
I'm gonna have to make the jump sooner or later, so why the Hell not now? - ish.

Any and all advice will be gratefully and happily received!!!

Peace and Love to One and all!

Drew!!!

Welcome along, my advice ? we are probably in the worst crisis I have seen in my working life, it's tough out there not only for sparks for everyone, everyone is undercutting, unless you have a specialist field of expertise in electrics, I would bide my time, thank god you have a 'Day Job' to pay the bills, get a couple years under your belt doing privates, there is always an optimal time to tell the boss where to poke his P60 honestly, I don't believe this is it !

Thanks Jimmy Boy.
It's food for thought.
Mate you in the North East yourself?
Or is this a country wide trend?
