I need advice on down lights please

Hello all, i really need some advice please as i am not an electrician.

i was working in 2 x loft spaces this week to remove insulation and fallen debris after the property had maintenance carried out to the thatched roof.
As i removed layer upon layer of insulation, down lights became visible, some with a white hood and some without.
Could anyone tell me if this is good practice or not, id appreciate any feed back at all, thanks for your time xx

The white hoods are a fire break.... which is a good idea if the roof is thatch.

maybe the ones without have just been knocked off when cleaning

Thank you for your response, but due to carrying the cleaning out myself, im 100% sure none were removed.
Im just concerned of how much insulation and dry straw surrounded them xx

They look like intumescent fire hoods. I would say yes they're a very good idea for roofspace with thatch above it.

Out of interest, are the downlights halogen?
ie,very very hot when used

littlespark has made a good point. if lights are halogens, replace with LEDs. halogens get extremely hot and with a thatched roof, pose a serious fire hazard.

Out of interest, are the downlights halogen?
ie,very very hot when used

That is the worry i had, the information im after, is feedback on the state of the loft space and can the downlights be covered with insulation like that, the thatcher charged a ridiculous amount of money and has caused several issues already xx

usually, if you can see the segmented reflector they are halogen. also after being on for a few minutes, halogens are too hot to touch.

Don't insurance companies sometimes have specific requirements for wiring systems and lighting in lofts of thatched roofs?
