I bought an 18v makita with 3-batteries for 99 quid, the latest wonder product at screwfix..I can tell you it is spot on, I love it. I've used it now for 3 days it is robust, i've drilled 10mm in tough hardwood, used big 10 x 70mm screws, battery power is good. 25mm holes in trunking, no probs.

With 2 spare batteries, I don't believe it can beaten for the price, a better all rounder will be twice the price.

i've got oneas well, wellworth the money

Good value. I don't use 18v combi drills now. I use an SDS (24v) and 14.4v impact driver. I find 18v combi drills don't quite have the muscle.

Yerp those 18v makitas are ok only last about a year tho i have been through a coupleof them switched back to the trusty dewalt.

Well, there is an enormous difference among Makita drills. I’m quite happy with my MAKITA BHR240RFE 18 VOLT LITHIUM-ION SDS ROTARY HAMMER DRILL.
Makita Bhr240rfe 18 Volt Lithium-ion Sds Rotary Hammer Drill MAKBHR240RFE from Buck & Ryan

There is also a much shorter version of the above!

I use the bosch 36v drill,i use it everything, ordinary drilling, hammer drilling, even has a chuck stop for my chasing tool, will drill 25mm holes through joists all day with a sharp spade bit, its brilliant, if it broke today id buy another tomorrow.

makita rule. I have the 18v combi lithium drill driver and impact driver, got em as a set for £310, well worth it ;)

36v Bosch SDS for masonry work, 36v Bosch Impact Drill/Driver for wood, Hitachi Impact for screws...... Bosch is just king, if either broke I'd send them back for repair for the first 3yrsthen I'd just buy another. Bought the Hitachi as it was the cheapest "good" impact driver I could find. Never had any probs with it, it just drives anything I want in, far better than any drill/driver as it doesn't jump the bit out the screw head and mangle it. Buy an impact driver, just do it.....
