Discuss Phase continuity resistance is alot higher than neutral resistance in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

whilst testing a new build i have wired the phase to phase continuity on a ring main, the resistance was 1.88 and the neutral was .51 . ive taken off every socket and checked all connections but still have the same reading. any suggestions?

Slightly odd suggestion, is the cable legal? Does it have all the right markings? there's a lot of very dodgy cable being sold these days.

Did you wire it? are you 100% you've found all the points in the circuit? FCU's ect......

how has the installation been treated since your 1st fix?
plasterers can be a nightmare with the trowel and also many a time ive caught a plumber blowtorching pipework right next to my main cable run
take the point of sh ite cable though , b4 xmas i had 3 different reels fail on me where it was exploding indide the pvc insulation
its crap when its not going well

all leads were zeroed before testing and all of the points have been taken off and looked at and screws tighten. Where do i go from here? do i break the ring up into 2 radials?

Did you wire it?....if so you will know the layout of the wiring which would help.
Whatever, break the circuit approximately in the middle and continuity test back untill you find the dodgy leg.
If it's a new installation you have to sort it really....splitting it into two radials is a half assed solution on a new circuit.

only for testing to find the fault. radials should only be used when you design the install as radials.
