Discuss rcd testing in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

It's a good shout e54 I was also shown to test at socket outlets but was aware the gn3 says at device and I've had my 2391 since 1998 so I have tested both ways over the years so surely the trip times would be quicker at the device will retest at device

In his defence he is actually a good teacher and a lot better than most at the college. I think if you asked a lot of electricians they would test at the circuit outlets

No matter how good you are, you'll never know everything. Always learning.....

It would be even better, for both you and the rest of this lecturers students, if what he was teaching was correct and to BS7671 guidelines....

was back on site today e54 you couldnt possibly get your test probes on to these dorman smith rcbos so the test would have to be done at socket outlets but on your domestic dual rcd boards you could just test at the device thanks

If the test meters probes don't/can't reach the terminals, because of deep tunnels then connect a short length of cable (6'' or so) and test from these short tails. In fact some manufacturers actually recommend this approach to testing there RCD devices.... I personally don't like D. Smith MCB/RCBOs, and never have!!! lol!!
