Hi I am a apprentice, recentley started about 3 months ago with a small local company. I have kind of enjoyed it but I am starting to find that I am sort of starting to get a bit stressed out with it and things like that, like my boss/employee that I work with keeps saying I need to show more enthusiasm, but its just the way I am? It is really starting to bug me and put me off electrics. I just want to know if it does get better or not.

Thanks, Matt

No, there not I think its the way I go about stuff. I get the job done with no problems I dont think he knows thsts just the way i am I get on with it and no messing about, I am still pretty slow at stuff but improving, like I did 5 sockets in 15 minutes the other day and thats good for me. But I don'r really know :p

It's not just how quick you are at terminating. You need to be proactive getting things done. If you see something needs doing, do it yourself before being asked.

Ask questions if you don't understand something and ask what needs doing next.

It does get easier, as you become more experienced. Remember there are 50 other guys trying to get every apprenticeship nowadays.

Stay with it and graft away, you are very lucky, and will regret it in years to come, if you leave or get the boot.

There is always the need to show enthusiasm for your work, it proves that you are enjoying it, because lets face it, what's the point of doing a job you don't like or enjoy.

Welcome to the trade SW and hopefully to a career that you will enjoy.

We spend the majority of our life at work, and you have to enjoy it or life gets pretty grim if you don't Will it get better, undoubtably, at the moment everything is strange and your most likely struggling to get to grips with things

I won't go back to medieval times of my apprenticeship but for the first 18 months I hated it and it was a only the fact that all the other apprentices hated it as well that I stayed.

But as you progress and you get to earn respect things do become easier and things start to fall into place and you begin to understand why things are done and when they are done the results of them.

After 3 months there is no doubt you are finding the technical aspect challenging and not understanding things is always pretty grim, but it will honestly get better, take it from someone that as stuck it for over 40 yrs!!

it will get better my old boss was saying show more enthusiasm etc and why did you leave at 4 i told you to stay till 5 (picked apprentice up at 7am) and we were working in woucster and comuting from derbyshire...

suffice to say when i handed my notice in he was surprised i was going.

some people think they can walk all over you.

depending on what you mean by 5 sockets in 15mins its not bad depending on the walls etc.

practice stripping with just snips and it soon becomes easy(some snips are a lot easier to do it with than others)

Ask plenty of questions, be proactive, give it a bit of time, but do you like the actual work.? If you don't then maybe its not for you. JMO

I would make sure this is what you want because as others have said it will get better but if you don't actually like the work then it is going to be a long miserable life ahead of you.
