Hello!

I have some questions about how the earthing of a one phase system. We want to connect this system to the national grid (will be in Tanzania but grid should work the same) while also having a battery bank giving energy. So the principles are about the same as for a ups system besides not needing the system to function in the case of earth faults.

System

We have an inverter, transforming solar charged battery DC voltage to AC which is led to lights and AC outlets.
Like i wrote it is all one phase.

After having read a couple of articles on the subject we thought about simply making one of the secondary side conductors a "neutral", by earthing it directly and "solidly". Will this work, or does a national grid have predefined neutral that is a middle value of the two conductors or something like that? Or are we completely lost on this?

If an error occurs that gives a current leakage we want the earth fault curcuit breaker to go off, powering the system down. Does this make "solidly grounded" the right option?

The last thing we wanted to be sure of is if we should connect the ground and neutral wires or not.

Thanks a lot!

You would be better off contacting the Tanzanian grid supply authorities and asking them what they will accept.
We cannot really advise on a UK forum about a Swede installing a solar system in Tanzania.
