I've just joined elecsa and am a bit unsure about a few things.

Do you guys use computer software, buy the certificates from elecsa or make your own?

I know this may sound a silly question but for the cerificate numbers would it be just cert no. 1 for your first job, cert 2 for your second etc?

Also if you did a consumer unit change and the lights had no cpc would you note that in the section for details of departures from bs7671?

Thanks

I would number them 0001 and 0002, I think it looks better, or you could include the year (200120001), to make it look like you've been doing them longer.
If the lack of CPC is just an observation on the existing installation, then it would be noted under comments on the existing installation.
If however you were to install an RCD, class II fittings and accessories and place a warning notice at the CU, then it would be a departure.
Departures are instances where you as the designer have opted not to comply with BS7671, but where the departure offers the same degree of safety as would be achieved if you had complied with BS7671.
Damage, defects, ommissions etc. in the wor covered by the IEC should be rectified before issue, and any (where reasonably practicable), found in existing installations should be noted under comments/observations on the existing installation.

I have been using downloaded certificates from Elecsa for 18 months now, in conjunction with Megger power suite. When you purchase the certificates they are already numbered for you, and this numer varies on the type of certificate it is ( Electrical installation, Periodic or Minor works etc.) When you open a new certificate within the software program, you are given the option to add individual identification, ie Job no. or customer Reference to it and this can be seen when you register the certificate on line, making them easy to identify.

It doesn't matter what system you use for numbering as long as you can identify each certificate/report.

Take a look at Castline Formfill, if you're only doing domestic work, it's free: Castline Systems - FormFill Level P
