Why are wall chasers so expensive

I've been looking at wall chasers, I really can't work out why they are so expensive. They seem to be a £70 angle grinder with a dust extraction shroud. Am I missing something?

It's because they don't sell many in comparison to normal grinders, it's a bit more specialized.

I mainly do industrial control work but thought one would be handy for re-wiring a house we have bought but was quite surprised at the cost. I do love a gadget but not sure I'd fork out £500 for something that's a bit of a 1 trick pony. I've learned the hard way that buying cheap tools always seems to end up in frustration and costs more in the long run.

Has anyone used the Sparky branded ones? They seem a fair bit cheaper. It's for a full house, rental seems prohibitive too. Like all tools you normally wonder how you managed without once youve got one.

Fair point Murdoch, I'm just a little surprised something which is 90% the same as a £70 grinder costs 6 times as much. Lack of competition I guess.

i have the titan one from screwfix. only bought it for a job not expecting it to last and in all honesty its just as good if not the equal of the premium tool brands. if it lasts then great but its made its money back and im quite happy with it

I have an Erbauer. I've used it on a few small jobs. So far, so good.

I've got a Bosch 4.5" grinder with the extract guard pretty much dust free chasing for about £70. Also the single blade gives you much better control.
I fit 5" erbauer disc in it to give 30mm cutting depth.

I've the Metabo one, have used the Titan, found it heavy and cumbersome to work with in comparison.

Metabo or Makita used to be the 2 options I recall in my early days, Aeg made a really good one, more powerful motor too. No longer produced.

The time saved, neater tracks for patching in, the vast reduction in cleaning up afterwards makes them worth it imo.
