I have a house on an estate of 8 houses in Cyprus. The houses are modern and the electrics a good standard. The electricity to the houses is supplied alternately on 2 of the phases, the 3rd phase being reserved for street lighting. Each house has a box outside in which is the meter, 80amp fuse...
Doing an installation and customer does not want switches for built in microwave, hot tap, washing machine etc... on show and wants them in a cupboard. I have persuaded them that the cooker must go on show for safety reasons (quick isolation in an emergency) but the others?
when separating 13amp sockets on different phases by 2/2.5m
-the only concern is physical separation of the sockets and not leads and appliances?
am i right in thinking any risk to customers/users from appliances on different phases is very small?

Hi, are there any reasons apart from faulty RCD that can be tested and what sequence of tests should I follow ?
I have a 100amp main switch with two MCB protected lighting circuits, and then a BS EN 61008 80a 30ma RCD with two 32a sockets circuits, a 16a heater circuit and a 6a security alarm...

Hi there folks.
At present my oven and hob both run on gas due to the fact that is no cooker circuit in the kitchen. After buying a new kitchen in the sales, I have decided to replace the appliances and run them on electric.
This will mean running a cooker circuit from the CU into kitchen...
Hi Guys
I have a question regarding volt drop.
Some time ago a company I worked for installed wall mounted aircon units around their workshop. They wired them into an existing 2.5mm ring main circuit which was in singles in a truncking. During operation some of the units would cause the...

It has recently been pointed out to me that EN 60335-1 section 24.2 that switches cannot be used in flexible cords. Why then can I buy a table lamp from a major UK store with a switch in the cord? Are there exceptions to the rule?

Hi all,
Just wondered how you go about checking sealed plug units on appliances?
What if the item is not working and/or the plug is looking in bad condition - is it ok to cut the sealed plug off and place a normal plug on the item or would it simply be put down as a FAIL.
Just wondering as...
Hi there, let's say I have two 24V DC powered appliances, and I would parallel them up and use a 24V DC power supply to power the appliances.
However, what would happen if I series them up and use a 48V DC power supply instead?
Both appliances are resistive load and has the same power...
hi guys
using a voltmeter on a dead 20amp radial with a few appliances still plugged in why do i get continuity between live and earth,, neutral and earth???

Hi guys, last week my neighbour asked me to look at their consumer unit as it had tripped 4 times in one day.

Hob
Upstairs Lighting

This seems to be a grey area in the industry, the code says fixed appliances should be PAT tested but alot of the common PAT testing equipment cannot handle this sort of test.
I've come across different answers:
1. don't pat test fixed equipment
2. only do a visual + earth bond with a multimeter...
Any one use these ? have been asked to avoid using sfs's as they are ugly !
It will need to isolate 2 under counter fridges, washing machine about 2.5M away and extractor fan
4M away.
Question is: is this ok as part of kitchen ring in 2.5 t&e or should it be a 4mm radial ?
I would run them...
