Mix Ratio of Lead to Tin when Splicing PILC 13800V Cable

Hey guys, I've been on jobs splicing and installing Pot head Terminations of 13800V PILC cable and I cant help but think our mix of lead to tin is as good as it could be. Walking through some plants Ive seen substations with immaculate lead wipes made anywhere from 25- 50 years ago and notice...

Printed Circuit Board mounting requirement with boards that have exposed high voltage traces

I am working within a project that involves access control and video, in a Georgia facility. Another unrelated installer is using properly sized generic cabinets with steel backplanes. I observed the low voltage components (logic controller, dry contact relay boards, etc) are being mounted with...

    High Voltage advice (11KV)

Hey all, looking for a bit of industrial electrical advice, I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment, the company I work for are pressuring me to work on HV (11KV) against my will. They put me through a 4 day AP (approved person HV) course and as I was the only person who...

What is the best way to install a device that requires 110-240V fused at 3A?

Hi all, I have an Outdoor Air Quality monitor that needs mounting to 110-240V with a 3A fuse. See Attachment for manufacturer installation guide. Is it possible to simply add a 3A fuse into any old plug and just wire it to the device? Looking forward to your replies.

InfinitPipe®: Onsite Manufactured Continuous FRP Conduit

This video shows how a jointless conduit of any length can be manufactured on site. The product can be used for new cable installations. More importantly, we can use the same technique to build a conduit around existing cables without disconecting the cables at the ends and taking them out of...

Do transformers produce more power than what is put in?

This might sound like a stupid question but I just don't get it. A electrical engineer at my work who works mainly on the high voltage areas like transformers and sub stations said that the 11kv step down transformers draw only 55 amps on the incoming and that would provide 230v on the outgoing...

    High voltage

Called out to a problem in a remote rural property, TNCS 100a single phase supply, overhead lines. Testing after sorting the issue my MFT flashed up a voltage of 265v L-N . Thinking the MFT was playing up I re-tested with a multi meter and got the same result. UKPN called and attended later in...

Alternator giving out high voltage but low current. Why??

My friend's alternator (Lucas 40A I think) is connected to one battery. It does get excited and produces 14.4V, and it gave out about 15A for a few seconds, but then the current went down to 3A within one minute, which is too low. What are possible causes of this behaviour?

High Voltage properties at 350KeV (DC voltage)

Hi, I'm working with a piece of kit which is used to accelerate ions in the manufacturing of silicon chips. We generate 350KeV using a high frequency power supply and a high voltage stack, basically a Cockcroft Walton Voltage Multiplier. Bit of advice I'm looking for is based on the fact that...
