Hi Guys,

I think I already know the answer to this, but wondered if anyone could throw another opinion to this....?

I've recently started a rewire on my parents new house and require a test cert because they plan to rent it out. I do do testing and inspecting at work, and I have periodic and full test certs in my van so could easily do the test and produce a test cert, but I don't think my firm would be keen on that.;)

My employers are registered with the NICEIC, however I and my own work are not. Do I need to get an independent tester in, or can I risk doing the test and hope my firm doesn't find out?

I know one or two will think this dodgy, but I'm just trying to do the job for nowt. Friendly advice will be much appreciated.

If you have finished the rewire then just do a PIR on a plain Cert downloaded from the IET, this will suffice for the rental, but the Rewire should have been notified to LABC under Part P of the Building regs.

If you use an NIC cert your company will be responsible for your work which as you say they may not be happy about......However as this is a job for your parents explain that to your firm and ask if you can cert and register the job on NIC forms. They may well say yes if you are honest and upfront and explain the situation.
