Hi all company I'm working for has decided to make every one a subcontractor this come into play next Monday. I have phoned for my utr now that I'm classed as self employed can I apply for any grants available as I am subcontracting ?

Why has the company changed to this policy?

Also, because you have only just signed up to UTR CIS you will be taxed @ 30% whilst the inland rev sort out their side of things. Just thought I'd give you an heads up on that.

So you have effectively been made redundant then how long have you worked for them

you get nothing when they do this, they register you as self employed then give you you boot and you get nothing from it

The sequence is;

Stage 1; They make your job redundant.
Stage 2; They make an offer of Self Employed work, you choose to accept or not.

Normal redundancy terms apply, no ifs no buts.

It was raised in a recent Parliamentry Select Committee broadcast re City Link and their movement of employees to Self employed.

And there is a very clear deifinition of what S-Employment is.
You can't turn any every job into S-E.

I hope you all got a good pay rise.

I see that your username is in purple indicating you are an apprentice. Are you sure that your training provider will accept that you are self employed, some courses require you to be under the employment of a company so that there is someone there to guide you. If you are an independent self employed contractor and also an apprentice who is your mentor?

This would clearly suggest that you are an employee and not self-employed. Self-employment is not a choice - it is based on the facts of the relationship between you and the company.
