Hi I've been looking out for multi function tester for under the £1000 price range able to do domestic, commercial and industrial locations. Any one have any best recommendations on the most user friendly and with your own experience with any particular brand? megger, fluke ect... Have been looking at the Martindale ET 4500 which doesn't look to bad for the money, plus also gives max Zs values for the type of circuit there and then, any one ever used this tester?

Thanks for help Anthony

A budget of £1k would give you scope to buy pretty much any new MFT you wanted. All the major brands do a good job although most people have their favourite brands due to little foibles and particulars of the way different MFTs function.
If you want your MFT to be useful in three phase installations look for phase sequence test ability and line-line PSSC ability.

Also decide whether or not you are bothered about the ability for your MFT to store data and transfer to computer forms as this will point your search in a particular direction.

I have never used any indication of a pass/fail for any test given to me by an in built value in a MFT. It's a lot more useful to have the info built into your head for an instant pass/fail check.

Thanks for help Andy. Very true about the pass / fail. Have just been doing a bit more research and the (

Thanks for suggestions. Ended up ordering the Kewtech KT65DL kit for around £820.00 on isswww.co.uk seems pretty good value for money including wonder lead and calibration cert for 12 month. Plus it has a portable appliance test on it which may come in handy. Cheers Ant

For what its worth, if you've got £1000.00 then the Megger MFT1730 without the software would be a good purchase. IMO.
Echo the advice NOT to purchase the Megger Power Suite software, if you do decide on the 1730 series, its a complete rip off.
