Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of buying my first tester.

I've been able to have a play with a couple, the Fluke 1651B Multifunction Installation Tester | Multifunction Tester and the Metrel MI3125E Multifunction Tester.

Personally I prefer the Fluke tester, I found it more straight forward to use. I was just wondering what other people thought. Is it worth spending that little bit more to get a tester with more functions or is there a better one out there for the same price?

Thoughts anyone?
Thanks.

It's all about what you are used to and what features you want. I have the Megger 1720 and like it for the auto RCD and the 2 wire no trip earth loop. I have used the fluke testers and find them ok but prefer megger

Out of the two you mention I prefer the Fluke. Upgrade to 1652 for phase rotation and auto RCD. Might also have ramp on that model but cant remember.

I have 1720 also, recently replaced my ageing 1502 with it. Do you find 2 wire Zs gives very high readings, like if you did 3 wire Zs and socket it would give 0.60 ohms and 2 wire the same socket (just for curiosity) and it is 1.10 ohms. I thought it would be great for lighting circuits but the readings are so unrealistic.

I find the 2 wire tests to give slightly higher readings but not as high as you say

From memory (personally use Megger, but have regularly used Flukes in the past) you need the 1652b as opposed to 1652 for phase rotation.
