When putting in some duct for fibre broadband we also put in a few lengths of 63/50mm twinwall duct "just in case" we needed that, as we knew of a few possible use. At the time the biggest load was expected to be of the order of 32A so 4C 6mm ample and no size issue.

However we are now pondering on a backup generator supply that could be around 90A so just OK for 16mm XPLE 4C SWA but ideally I would make it 25mm so it comfortably has the same 100A rating as the main supply.

Have I a hope in hell of getting that cable, probably around 28mm outer diameter, through the 50mm inner diameter of the duct?

The run is only about 10m long but ends up/down bends might be tighter than I would have planned if doing this from the outset.

You might need to use a cable sock to stop the end biting into the ducting on the bends but I don't see any other reason why it wouldn't go through

That will be tight on the bends, but as long as there are no undulating parts of the duct other than that a cable sock as @UNG suggests and some cable lube, two sturdy blokes should do it! 🤞

Thanks for all the comments/advice.

Yes duct is currently clear with just a 6mm draw rope ready for use, but I suspect I might need to pull in a thicker one to make it less "springy" and to reduce the tendency to rub/cut the duct. Maybe doubled-up 12mm or something.

A pulling sock is a great idea!

Any advice on lube? Ideal yellow seems easy to get and can pull through a rag to moisten the duct first (oh-err!) as well as getting a minon to apply it to the cable going in.

There is also a need for a 12V DC charge/control cable (probably 12mm diameter or so, if Felxishield 3C 1.5mm) to be put in but I might run that through another duct as that really would be getting tight.

I don't see any reason that the 6mm draw rope wouldn't do the job if the cable is fed into the duct as it is pulled though with the rope, with the size of the cable it would just be like sending a drain rod down a drain IMO

Not sure I would bother with any lube it's not like you are pulling cables through conduit

That would probably be better in another duct to reduce the damaged cable risk to one or both cables
