Quoted from the handbook.

Candidate entry requirements
Candidates should not be entered for a qualification of the same type, content and level as that of a
qualification they already hold.
This qualification is intended for experienced personnel working in the electrical industry. Although
City & Guilds does not state formal candidate entry requirements, the qualification is not intended
for non-qualified electricians and/or those who do not have experience in inspecting, testing and
certifying electrical installations.
Candidates without this experience should seriously consider undertaking the City & Guilds Level 2
Certificate in fundamental inspection, testing and initial verification (2392-10) as well as obtaining
industry experience. It is also strongly recommended that candidates have achieved either the City
& Guilds Certificate in the requirements for electrical installations (BS 7671 January 2008) (2382) or
similar qualifications where candidates have demonstrated knowledge and understating of the 17th
edition.

Age restrictions
This qualification is not approved for use by candidates under the age of 18, and City & Guilds
cannot accept any registrations for candidates in this age group.

says it all really, im on level 3 this year and im doing 17th at oment so i can have crack at 2391 in jan. gl

Maybe worth waiting til it's a new course.
Personally I don't know if this new version of the 2391 is any worse or better than the current 2391.
But the new course will teach you more about the new reports and certificates.
I do think though that the 2391 is a real exam, a real challenging exam and worth having.

If you put your mind to it and the effort in you will pass but it is a lot to learn
2392 will lead you into this course but i just went for the 2391
but i had to study day after day for months to ensure i passed as all the answers have to come from your head and knowledge not a book like the rest

its possible to pass but its upto you
and how much you want to pass its ending and being replaced in december so either hurry and do this or wait for the newer versions which will cost you more

my thinking bruclee,,, im friendly enough with tudor , and he says go for it. as for putting in the time, i do, i buy books read them and send them back as its starting to stick and they all seem the same in some way or should i say they are.... on 5th week now of 17th edition 5 to go, then be gn3 till the big day 2391 starts january but have to register december.... can i ask what you payed for exam fees for 2391???

then im going to get a job in factory again, no hassel

Shop around, mine cost me £800, the course was basically just doing past papers and a brief look at the test board.
I didn't know any better at the time but I know now you can get it much cheaper.
Maybe now it's changing you can get a really good deal.
Depends if you want a short intensive(cheap) or a long night school (expensive) course.

mine was £455 for 8 week 1 evening 3hrs and £85 for a optional full day at bury college
so £540 college got me funding for half and i managed to get a local skills shop tp pay £150
so i the end paid £140

mine was about 450-500 but didnt cost me a penny i had an apprenticeship with my training provider and at the end we were given a free course so i paid 140 for my 17th and got the 2391 free instead. did mine over 4 weeks spending two days a week in college, 8th day was the prac and theory late evening a week after, feel better as an electrician having this qual

Quite the opposite in fact. When I did the 2391 I did it over 12 weeks (at nights) at the local tech for £30 plus exam fees. Short courses are always considerably dearer.
