That was the phone call... realism was that mr customer had tried to change his light switches and got a little mixed up.

Forgive the ms paint circuit drawing...

In truth, the outside light was the only thing that did work.... except it turned the rest of the house on and off as well!

The diagram above is how it should have been, and how I left it... with brown sleeving where required. (there was no identification at all)

So... outside light switched the outgoing feed on and off.
First time ive seen this in practice... 3 core from switch, through light to other switch. The red and yellow cores were totally unbroken. The switch at the bottom of the stairs was connected the same as the landing light switch... red to Common, yellow and blue strappers. Had to swap that around.
Red wire had popped out the upstairs switch... turned out to be a feed out to a bedroom.

A number of mistakes mr customer created by himself by not taking photos or drawing a diagram.
Also the new light switches were metal, and he hadn't taken a link to the back box.

Not my remit.... but the pass-through radiator, the one without a TRV, was fitted inside the airing cupboard on the landing, which at one time would have housed the hot water tank. Room stat was in the downstairs hall.
