Been looking at the OSG to part p and not sure if I have this right.
There is a diagram showing a minimum distance from edge of cooker to the isolating switch of 300mm but I can't find any other reference to this.

Am I right in thinking that the isolator does have to be a min of 300mm away and not more than 2000mm away from the edge of the cooker?

correct

as long as the cooker is not right next to the sink

as long as the cooker is not right next to the sink
the cooker should never be next to the sink if it is thats bad kitchen design and obviously the cooker switch would be located at the far side of the cooker away from the sink so 600 to 630mm + 150mm = 780mm away !!

in an ideal world, yes. but we can't allow for the numpty who move a cooker on a kitchen refit .

used to be a guideline of 6". it's only so as the heat from the hob does not damage the accessory. i don't think there's a hard and fast distance.

ive got a job to do upgrading the existing 6mm to 10mm for a new hob the problem is that the current location of the cooker switch is below the hob in the cupboard its within the 300-2000mm but not sure if the existing location can be used or does it have to be above the worktop (i.e not hidden) cant see anything in the regs about it.

Thanks guys.

The easy place for it was only about 100 mm from cooker so I went for the damn awkward location, right under a window sill but over 300mm away.

Jboy1888,
Table 53.2 says cooker unit switch has to provide emergency switching and 537.4.2.5 says it must be readily accessible, so I reckon in a cupboard isn't good enough.

yep so does the regs say 150mm or 300mm cause i think 150mm minimum is a gr8 distance to work from and i know if you do a pir and the cooker switch is 200mm away and mark it as an a advisory at that you would be laughed off site !! general rule of thumb 150mm edge to edge but anything 300mm from metal of sink so if next to a sink[bad design] must be 300mm away so choose the other side of cooker and use the 150mm from edge so the sink has no affect on it as the sink is at the other side of the cooker and we cant always allow for future adjustments..one of this nature would be delt with in the future as it happens ! regards >>RoD
