What size of cables does it do that any normal clamp meter that does earth leakage or goes down to mA cant do? My clamp meter the work supplied tests earth leakage no problems and it's nowt fancy. I'm also not just talking individual circuits I'm talking the main earths in the switchroom. Maybe I'm just a tight scot!!

I'm all for good tools though don't get me wrong all my tools are c.k and bahco. If you're happy enough to pay a premium for it then fair do's. I would keep it in the house if I purchased that with my own pennies in case I scratched it!!

the thing is though, if it is something you will use once in a blue moon hire one.

if you end up using it more than a couple times a year it would be worth investing in a decent one.

dilog mft testers are good and that is probably where there recomendations comes from.

people say to me to get the fluke t30 etc as a voltage indicator

well

they can shove it up there arse an analog martindale or equivilent beats it hands down
Eh, seeing as virtually every new installation will include some form of RCD device, and that RCD's have been called for on domestic installations for a good many years now, i can't see how any self employed working electrician can be without a earth leakage tester as part of his or her test kit.... They are invaluable for tracing earth leakage faults especially on CU's where the RCD devices are protecting several circuits!!

The TM-EL9809 is a rebadged Dilog DL6507 of which i have owned coming up for 3 years now without any problems whatsoever. These units have resolutions similar or better, to units costing 3 times that of Fluke or Megger where you are paying through the nose for an well known industry name rather than it's technical specification.

Look after any test equipment and it will generally look after you when you most need it. Leave it being ----ed around in a van and it won't last very long at all.... Common Sense really

Common sense is an endangered species soon to become extinct!
