Mr Curnow

Well I am finishing the 2330 level 2 this week, for next year I have enrolled for 2330 level 3. It seems good but it is only 1 day a week and there is no practical side to it I think.

I want to stick with the college course because I think it is a safer way of getting qualified, say if I done an apprenticeship but the company wasn't getting enough work to train me anymore then I'm going to be in trouble, if that ever happens. We are in a recession, so I can imagine that could happen.

The bad thing with staying on a college course is that I won't be getting enough practical work, so when I do find a job with an electrician, I'm not going to be great.
Also I would definitely prefer a job with an electrician rather than work at somewhere like tesco, but it is kind of hard to find an electrical job especially when your training, I ring people but they all keep on saying they haven't got enough work. I am going to try sending out my CV and letters to companies hoping they will employ me.

Have you contacted the JIB and asked to be registered as an apprentice. This way if they send you to college they will recognise your quals. at the end of it, if you can get work with an employer all the better but it's worth asking.

Try to get employment with an electrical company that way you will get hands on experience for your NVQ and AM2. Going just the college route will get you your 2330 L2 & L3 but you will still be in the same position but a bit more qualified

Well is the 2330 level 2 + 3 all you need to be qualified and will the companies still take me on after I have finished the 2330 level 3. They would prefer people that have done apprenticeships.

No mate,

You will also need the

2356 NVQ Level 3
17th Edition

To become fully qualified and graded by the JIB as an Electrician.

So it would be much better to choose an apprenticeship as the company probably will get me to do all those course your talking about.

If your able to get an apprenticeship go for it but its difficult as companies are not taking on but with your level 2 already it may be the ticket for you.

Well I think the 2330 level 3 is the only course I am doing at college next year, 7 hours on monday, not really much. I thought that they would be offering all the courses I would need to be qualified. Would an apprenticeship get me to do all these courses or do they take another route?

What are the chances of me finding an apprenticeship then losing it because of our recession? I've rung quite a few companies asking for work, they just say they haven't got any for themselves.
