Hey. Im new to the forum! Heyy!

I want to join Napit. I hear they require previous test certs and references from previous customers to join.

I am joining Napit in order to write certs... How would i have any previous forms?

Having never issued a cert to a customer, i also have no references for notifiable work.

Do i need to do a few jobs notifying with building control before joining a competent persons scheme?

Hi Danupsher

Ive been with the NAPIT for four years now and found the joining process fairly straight forward. I just did two jobs, a shower at one property and a freezer socket on a dedicated circuit on a RCBO at the other I filled the certs in on the day the job was done (couple of weeks before the assessment).
All they asked for was qualifications, and a brief work history. No mention of references etc. I took them to view the jobs they asked me to do the Zs test on both of them and checked them against the results recorded on the cert. then it was see you next year your in! When I came on line I registered the jobs with the building control and all within the 28 day limit. I don't know if the way I did the jobs not being Part P or informing local building control first was correct (or even legal) but both home owners knew what was happening and was happy (ie not yet part p etc but using the jobs for assessment). All in all though a easy process, remember at the end of the day you are a potential customer of the NAPIT and the want your money.

With NAPIT they need you to have 2391 or equivalent Level3 etc, or take their 'trade test'
You should be writing certs anyway even if you add a socket to a ring main it should have a minor works cert for instance.

They will visit you and will want to see some practical work with they correct documentation.

I'm registered through NAPIT and they would normally want one notifiable job and one minor works. That could be a board change and a change of light fitting respectively.

Have a look on the NAPIT website, plenty of info on there.

Not being funny but why have you never issued any certs in the past?
