I have been testing property's for my local authority. now we are required by our company to do between 3-5 periodic's per day. I have been testing the zs at the last light on the circuit , the theory being that any fault or lack of earth will show at the last light. when i went to college this morning to do a practical test on a rig i went to the light at the end of the circuit for my zs reading only to be told that this is wrong and i should check every light on the circuit and get a zs reading at every light then note down the highest for my result. is this something you do or am i right and just look for the last light.?

If you have carried out a R1 + R2 or R2 at every point on the circuit then Zs only needs to be carried out at last point.

Yes, you should really be conducting the Zs test at each fitting.
This will prove both CPC continuity and if you operate any switches, polarity.
A Zs test at end of line, will not prove that any spurs have CPC continuity.
However, having said that. It may be the case that you can agree a limitation that will allow you to just test at end of line.

3-5 Periodics a day so who is we I take it you and a partner or are you doing 3-5 a day yourself ?

Have you seen Napit's new EICR sheets? It's just a tick box test, a joke if you ask me. Little or no help to anyone further down the line. 3 a day is very possible when 95% of the time is spent ticking a box.

3 - 5 a day. what a joke. your company is obviously on a money spinning scam. 2 a day is about right for an average house.

with little or no travelling between houses, and no lunch break. i also think that some accessories should be removed, in order to have a look at the state of the terminations. i reckon a lot or EICR's or PIRs are conducted by just testing, with little or no inspection

A test is made at the last light of the upstairs lighting (Bathroom)
The earth continuity exists at this end of line Bathroom light because the cpc loops are connected together

The toilet before the bathroom is class 1,earth not connected

Tennant changes bulb whilst holding copper pipe to high level cistern but didn't check switch was off :waving:

Tennant not happy.or not alive perhaps !:furious3:

Questions to spark by the legal eagles :45:
Spark says "I tested the end of the circuit to get a number in a box to satisfy the expected speed at which my boss says it should take to test"! :banghead:
Sparks explanation accepted and he carries on being allowed to reduce the council tennant numbers ?

Sparky 1502 please do not think I am having a pop and I am grateful you posted but to do 3-5 a day would be a logistics nightmare ie making sure all 5 occupant are at home plus you and a partner would have to punch out 1 flat every 1 hour 20 minutes is right ?

Also once again thanks for your input

How do you know you are at the last light?

Are you testing R1 + R2 at each light until you get the highest figure then assuming that is the end of the circuit? If so may as well do Zs at each light as Spinlondon says.

I never trust 2 or 3 houses that are the same, to assume the last light is in the same place.

Well there's the 80 mins taken up. Get 'live', time for a brew. :coffee:Fat chance.

i know a lad who reckons he does a full house in 45 minutes / it would take me that to get me tools out :-)

i did 4 periodics today 2 flats and 2 houses. houses have 4 circuits unless the have a shower circuit, but its mainly 2 lighting circuits a cooker circuit and a ringmain. the 3 flats had 3 circuits a cook circuit a ring main and a lighting circuit. these are local authority propertys so they are all wired in much the same way. the last light is always in the same place and all sockets are in the same place. in this day and age time is money. so no r1 and r2 its calculated at the end. i do 4 a day without pushing myself. i understand that when your doing a private periodic it pays to take extra care and you charge something like £20 per circuit. the council dont pay anything like £20 a circuit but the work is always their so its always going to be a catch 22
