Discuss New Cooker Cable in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Are you asking for cable for the supply circuit to the cooker outlet or from the cooker outlet to the cooker? If the latter the manufacturer will often specify it (and occasionally supply it).

6mm T/E, unless you want to use butyl flex and ferrule the ends.

If not specified in the manuf instructions, then something like 4.00mm 3183TQ should do. Most manuf specify one of the HORxx type cables though so have a read of the installation instructions.

The butyl has stranded cable not solid core so handles the heating from the current better. The butyl is also more suitable to the environment (grease/oil etc). Wouldn't use it on an oven install but usually do for a cooker.

As a rule of thumb use the same size conductor as the supply circuit. So for most domestic cookers a bit of 6.0mm T&E is the norm

Every fine stranded cable requires ferrules at the terminations unless connected to a terminal specifically designed for fine stranded cables
