Im a tenant living in a house in Liverpool, I have only recently moved in but noticed straight away the lack of any earth wires in the metal light fittings. I flagged this up and the landlord came round and replaced all the fittings to plastic while I was away on business. On returning I have checked the bathroom light which flickered to find it was also metal, no earth and 240v 60 watt bulb. I haven't done electrics for a while but thought there were different regs for wet rooms but don't know anything about old wiring. I have also found out that the landlord has added a socket in the kitchen which I thought needed to be done by an electrician. Am I needing to get an inspection done even if the landlord says it doesn't need one?

Any help would bee appreciated, thanks.

your landlord should have had an inspection done on change of tenancy.

Makes a change for a landlord to do at least something, we all know what they should do but round here they are all blood sucking loaches and wont spend a penny unless you go legal.

If your that concerned get a local sparks to do a quick visual inspection to confirm your findings, that way you have at least some qualified pressure to push to get a full inspection done.

Before jumping in and giving you landlord some stick, check your tenancy agreement. I have seen agreements where the tenant has the responsibility for getting stuff like this done. Not right in my opinion but, you could end up with a big bill if you are not careful. If it is his responsibility, and he has used a letting agent, then get onto them about it, as they may be able to force his hand as they have put you into a potentially dangerous predicament.

Cheers...........Howard

Don't forget that an electrical inspection is NOT mandatory at change of occupancy !
Gas - yes.
Electrical - no.
