I have some of these lights

And some of these

And I want to replace them with Some MR11 and MR16 LED's .

Some are on a dimmable switch and I have been reading about the type of switch and LED bulbs . About trailing edge etc. And buying dimmable LEDs to use on normal dimmer switches.

Now I saw this in a cupboard of mine when I moved into the house not sure if they are fitted or spare or where they would be if they were fitted.

Some advice needed I think ...

Can LEDs be used as replacements to halogen spot lights, some on dimmers some on normal switches?

I am a n00b when it comes to lighting etc....

ok so had a nose round in the loft and saw this
each of the lights is setup the same way ...

im guessing the blue things are called drivers ... from what i have been reading

if this is of any help ..

ditch the 12v. fit dimmable GU10 LEDs,

you currently have 12v halogen spotlights, you need to alter exhistiing wiring to suit LED lamps.
also your dimmer may not work with LED dimmable lamps cause the dimmer will have a minimum load rating.

GU 10............. GU10 LED

Edit sorRy ordinary GU10 picture wont work!

its easy for us!!! you need to post a picture of these 5w lamps you talk about as they might be 240v GU10 type

My advice, to keep things simple and cost effective would be to replace the MR16 lamps with LED MR16 and remove the dimmer switch and replace with standard on/off switch. You can get MR16 lamps that run straight of 12v electronic 12v transformers, I get them from a company and they work well, nice and bright(not sure if I can name the company here though)!!!!
