Hello sparks

Is it me or are van break inns hugely on the rise, this year every electrician i know has been broken into.
on a new van what is the best way to secure your van as best as you can as i think 90% are low hanging fruit with robbers not bothering with well secured van.
Although with that said i know of a gentlemen who has a brand new transporter with security like fort knocks.... grinder on the roof and the van was subsequently written off.
Also insurance anyone can recommend?
and finally anyone been done over themselves as i feel like i am the only one who has been lucky so far as a good friend got all is stuff taken just going into ASDA.

With security I reckon a good audio alarm deters most and was thinking about getting a mini site box to bolt down and put the pricey stuff in. Few years back I had a van stollen in broad day light, apprentley there was a gang operating with a tow truck in the area!

Its a crying shame that we cant have nice things in todays society. Work hard and buy some decent tools and become more efficient and some toe rag robs it. Luckily i have got deadlocks and cctv over my drive with a led flood to deter scum. Ive also got a 700mm length of 5omm 4 core taped together by the side of my seat for any chancer coming my way.

Unfortunately the low life scumbags are using more destructive methods to get in our vans. I have been looking at different options for van security and came across Tool Shield van security. I would personally consider this as it is like a vault the size of your van.
But like Gaz92552 mentioned they can just take the whole van.

i find a double barrel 12 bore poking out the bedroom window to be a good deterrent. ( it's actually 2 pieces of 20mm plastic conduit taped together)
I did 'put' funny, though, with an uncomfortable laugh, I know you are serious!

One of our vans a few weeks ago, they pinched a few tools but caused a lot a damage to the van in the progress.

better and cheaper. a 12V -240V inverter fed from van battery, L connected to van body, N to spike in tarmac.

When I was at college a lad built a box which he left in the common room, inquisitive students soon investigated and promptly got a electric shock.
He had fitted the box with a battery, a timer and a car ignition coil, each side of the box was opposite polarity, when you tried to pick it up.. zap, timer pulsed every couple of seconds.
Was really funny at the time, but a similar idea would be good for lock up boxes inside vans! Insulate the box from the van chassis, positive to the box negative to the chassis...

I had a laptop stolen just before Christmas. It was worth maybe £100, so £50 to them at most, but it had a few thousand pounds worth of EICR's for a laboratory on it which I had to redo.

There's bankers and politicians thieving from us from the top out in the open about it, and there's scum from the bottom creeping about nicking our stuff, then there's us working hard but getting shafted from both ends. What a life!

You catch the scum trying to break into your property or thieving your stuff & do anything to them. Then see what happens, You'll suddenly find that scum have more rights than normal people and they can afford better lawyers, Or of course Joe public will foot the bill for one:mad:

@Specialist worse than that, if you call out a banker or politician for being a crook, they'll sue YOU for defamation! Look at Ian Hislop, most sued man in Britain, all he does is says what he sees and doesn't pull punches. Maybe if these old boys networks didn't rinse so much money from the system we could pay for a better NHS and police force. /rant over... you can tell it's Monday morning.

Won't argue with anything you said buddy, but they're sort of removed somewhat. We're stuck with Bankers & Politicians the same as we would be with a boil on the butt. No matter what bank you use or political party is in, we know they're shafting us on a daily basis.

Thieving Druggie scum are closer to home for most of us & their antics have a more Instant & Shocking effect on our daily lives, hopefully having your van ripped off wouldn't be a regular occurrence.
When it does happen though, it has a massive effect on your business or job & your ability to put food on the table for your family.

Nowadays they'd probably send them to Alton towers or Disneyland, because obviously they won't have had these things growing up & that's what will have made them do bad things. This will make them jealous of what other people have & cause them to go out thieving to get things.
Yeah right, My heart bleeds. Maybe they could get off their collective asses & go earn the money to buy what they want.
:mad::mad:.
Sorry Rant over (maybe).

Bet they're out already, after the Police giving them breakfast at the taxpayers expense.
We recently had a scroat around here, hammering around in a car with no tax, insurance or mot. He was even seen driving along the pavements at speed, anyway one Friday night the Police were lying in wait & had him bang to rights. Guy was nicked about 7.30 pm, apparently turns out he had no licence either & several previous convictions. He was back home by 11 that night. 12 hours later, after a Police chase. He was caught again, this time driving a stolen car.
Where in the hell are we going ?, have to say I feel sorry for the Police. Their job must be soul destroying at times.

I've always wondered, when the bleeding hearts bleet about scumbags human rights. What about our bloody human rights ?, Doesn't seem they're so important.

We recently had the spare van broken into, they wrecked the back and side doors, but didn't get in. The van was so damaged by their poor efforts to get in that it was written off. The only item stored in the van was a push broom, at least they didn't steal that...

As we all know that there has always been scumbags about. I just hope that all the van manufacturers have taken note and are working on making them more secure. A high percentage of vans being done over is by folding the side or back doors.
This is another reason why the bastards only get a slap on the wrist is because they aren't carrying anything on them.
They just peal the doors open like a can of sardines.

Had my truck done over a few months back, smashed the rear screen & also bent the top of the drivers side door. The sum total of stuff they stole ? Absolutely nothing, everything was still there but I'd gained a big screwdriver.
Police didn't want to know as it was parked on a private estate outside a garage, awaiting repair.
Luckily the guy who runs the garage picked up the bill, that's the third vehicle we've had done over:mad::mad::mad:

They need to put locking systems similar to UPVC doors, but with bolts all around. Then as long as the door is internally braced with a couple of cross bars it would need TNT to get in!

smart water is a good option, but only works after they've got in.

had my mft and sds lifted from a contractors car park at the NEC just a couple of days ago. I think they must have picked the locks as their was no damage. inevitably I'm now looking into van security, better late than never I guess.

yep, kicking myself now as I even know about the tib (?) locks and how easy they are to pick.
seriously anyone reading this thread, make time to secure your van. because it's a lot cheaper to do it before rather than after you've been done.

I would like to think we all would have the respect for our fellow work professionals. But as you said if it's not a restricted area then who knows.
What is a mft??
Festool multifunctional table?

OK
So £600 + gone I'm guessing.
If this may help you out have a look at Sussex installations on YouTube.
All about van security very good and shows you many different options.
I hope this the one and only time this will happen to you.

not quite that bad £120 for the drill and ~£350 for the tester. I had a second hand fluke 1653 but never used the phase rotation feature so going for a 1652, again second hand. also thinking of going battery sds for the convenience but I'm worried it will crap itself if it ever has to core drill a 100mm hole.

Use a good battery SDS for normal daily use & keep a cheap 110v for taking when you know your going to need it.

I got to the stage unless I knew I really needed my good gear I used Aldi and Lidl cheap gear, but was surprised how good it was.
Testers and the like I took into the premises.if it was secure , and took them out at night.
Consumables I was prepared to lose , but cherished hand gear was always well cared for and taken in at night. I never left gear lying around a site , and had a bag of shoddy crap for the ones that said can I borrow.. They seldom asked twice.

Bought an SDS from Lidl about 15 years back, after 2 Dewalt we were using on site burnt out.
Used it daily on site for ages & still have it, thing still works like a dream. Best £70.00 I've spent.
People that ask to borrow tools get a short refusal from me I'm afraid, had stuff lost or damaged in the past due to lending people tools.
