Hey all, I'm looking into a solution for a friend who has a long staircase in an old surgery he has converted to flats and bedsits. Basically from front door onwards he has 2 gang switch plates all wired junction box system with just red, yellow, blue 3 core and cpc at each gang. He wants time lag switches of some sort which don't require a Neutral of course and there are no intermediates on stairs, all just 2 way. switch lines must be all stashed at jb's somewhere.

Questions are does anybody know of any time lags that are 2 gang on a plate ? I'm thinking it's a no and only way will be to take single away and maybe sink in some dual appliance boxes and use 2 x time lags per set of stairs.

and does anybody know if standard lag switches will be alright on just 3 cores ?

why not just put them on PIR's or change the fittings to ones with built in PIR's?

Hey bud, was looking at the plate mounted PIR's but they were more expensive over here but fittings may be an idea :-) thing is would still have to do something with all the 3 cores left at switch plate positions.

Standard time lag switches are a simple spst switch so only require 2 conductors with multiple switches being wired in parallel

You sure it's not been wired using the conduit method or the commons have just been blocked through in the fittings?

Not had a proper nose around yet mate, all I know is could be fed on 2 or more circuits as found a cu downstairs near entry hall and another in a cupboard of one of the flats belongings jammed on top of it on an upstairs landing.

Those Danlers switches look the business though, I'll give them a call in the a.m. and work out if I need one time lag and one slave per staircase etc.. look good though. Thanks Andy.
