Would a dedicated trainee forum be beneficial?

If so, would you be happy to help?

Let us know above, and your answer will not be seen by anyone.

i think not as we learn from the more experienced guys.. and the older guys keep younger ones at bay with language and smartness towards others, up the oldies.. just my opinion for now..

As a trainee in my last stages of 2330 L3 and NVQ Level 3, it would be a massive help. Will probs come a little late for me though.

I suppose it would only be a success if you older guys popped along with your words of wisdom. Which, let's be honest... you probably wouldn't bother as really you have no need to.

probably be better in a sense where all the learning material could be instead of people struggling with search and no patience

i think its a good idea, but surely the questions that are gonna be asked the answers or the formulaes will be in books they already have, any questions on practical (how do i do this?) will not get a good response because people will be reluctant to give advice if the person asking doesnt know what their doing

Forgot to add that if anyone wants to help out, then send me a PM.

You wont get a reply, but it will be logged.

As i said on the other thread, this is just 'testing the water'.

J

Edit to add: The forum will be for ALL questions from newcomers and trainees etc.

What you must remember is, that we all had to start somewhere, regardless of background.

I wouldn't ever ask for a straight answer to a question, but quite often i draw a complete blank on where I can find information. If someone on here is willing to help give a nudge in the right direction, I don't see a problem with that. But yeh, I am against people just coming on and expecting their homework to be done for them.

no harm in testing the water in adding something new, but i think we should be united, your mods do a good job of sorting the posts out and moving them accordingly to correct area

to be fair jase it isnt going to be any different to the forum as it is,there will be a thousand different answers to a question as is the norm and people will be just posting for answers to their homework anyway,i dont know how people passed exams before the tinterweb,oh ive remebered they studied it.

i finished my c & g level 3 last year and this would of been massive help, but not really necessary as they will have tutors at college if they get stuck. im not against it but could lead to others doing the workings and the individual getting through courses without really understanding it properly

How does that work regarding giving 'new members' access? Will all new members automatically be granted access based on their time on the forum regardless of their training status, ie experienced time served qualified sparks will automatically be given access to a trainee forum for the first year or so after they join the forum?
Also at what point is access withdrawn? Can you ask questions for the first, say, 3 years then you're on your own so you can't ask questions if you need to retake any exams?
It can be bad enough as it is with impatient question askers hedging their bets by posting the same question in every forum to try to reach as many people as possible, so restricting the number of people who are available to answer questions in a dedicated sub forum may encourage someone who wants an answer quickly to post the question in the 'correct place' as well as the general forum, which would make the problem worse.

I don't think restrictions need to be applied, the main point i was thinking along, was the help they can give to each other and a place where information stickies WILL be read and taken notice of. It gives the apprentices and trainee's there own forum and a place to meet. I'm also not trying to isolate them either, if anything it'll give them a sense of belonging on the forum....

They can always come to the General forum if a query isn't being addressed on the new forum. Which again, those experienced electricians can and i'm sure will go to this forum to offer help where and when they can...
