So i am currently employed by a JIB company. On my contract they offered me a position as a stage 2 electrical trainee. I have been working in the industry for 5 years now with varied experience. 2 years at a Testing and inspection company, 2 years with a company that predominantly done Housing assosication work, some small commercial projects and small new build developments.
My qualifications:
City and guilds 2365 level 2, i did not complete the 4th year as i worked away to much being promised time to make up days missed and it never happened. so failed to complete 2 assignments.
18th edition
AM2
am currently enrolled on a NVQ level 3 course
have passed the current 2391 combined test and inspection exams
ECS

my current employer will not endorse my NVQ, so they pay me £11.90 which is the stage 1 trainee electrician. I like my job i am not trying to cause an issue but some of this does not seem fair. All training and courses have been paid for by me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards

Jack

Hi. I’ve moved your thread to the main forum.

What you mean, not endorse your NVQ 3? Did you complete the Logbook Associated with the NVQ? you‘re employed by a J.I.B company now, So did you have an apprenticeship prior to starting with them? if so was it through the JTL? Mistake me if I’m wrong but I thought you had to complete the NVQ 3 before doing your AM2.

The AM2 has to be completed as part of the NVQ, you can't complete the NVQ without it.

That is the answer to kennys question.
He said he thought you had to do the NVQ before doing the AM2 and I answered that the AM2 is done as part of the NVQ
No Kenny said what he thought, and/ you added your bit, but not one of you said what Matey should be graded as did you? You both wittered on about qualifications, but no definitive answer as of yet.

thanks pete, i think i hadworded the question quite clearly. What grade should i be, the AM2 is part of your nvq you can do it anytime

What I was alluding to is if the OP was trained under a “JTL” apprenticeship they the “JTL” could endorse or get the ball rolling to endorse the NVQ3 to become an Electrician.

OP if you’ve done it off your own back. Then you can chase it up with the JTL and explain that the current company will or are not willing to endorse the NVQ 3 and are a J.I.B company which work to JTL training requirements. Then you won’t have to be graded as a Trainee Or if you are only temporary until you can complete the Logbook. You might have thought you worded it well but I needed a clearer picture before trying to assist. Thanks.

Ok well things have changed then, when I completed the 2330 the requirement was NVQ3 finished first and AM2 was the Final hurdle.

I have had a look at the JIB handbook section 4 page 92.

it mentions Provisional Grading or Electrical improver grading. Have a read.

I was also under the impression you couldn't do the AM2 until you'd done all 3 years of NVQ, to my mind after the AM2 you're a "fully qualified electrician." Only thing you could do after that is specialise in something (electronics, engineering, automotive etc.) with an accompanying Degree/HND/HNC.

Yes I thought it was like that too. Considering that was how the J.I.B - JTL conducted my path. The Uk Sparky world is confusing, too many changes by the looks of things.

Can you enlighten me why you have qualified "done all 3 years of NVQ" as far as I know an NVQ does not have a time attached to it? Genuine question as before I retired some time ago now, I used to project manage the writing of NVQ's for the CIC.

The AM2 is required as part of the NVQ, and the NVQ does not take 3 years.
The NVQ is completed at whatever pace you do it in, it is possible to complete it in under a year if you get the right variety of on-site work in that time.

That was my point, when I was involved with then, anyone with the correct experience could complete an NVQ in a couple of weeks, if not days as long as the assessor was happy with that, I did not think that had changed that much.
