Alright , on my quest to learn the trade , I have a question?

when making off glands , would you ....

A. Use adjustable spammers or a talon wrench to NOT scratch the gland

or

B. use grips and not be too bothered about scratching if it slips ?

The reason I ask is because I was taught to do it with adjustable a and not scratch it , but then a lot off people tell me not to be soft and just use grips and don't worry about scratching ?

So what's your opinion ?

Sorry Glen you didn't state your preferred method?
whatever is necessary for the situation...
i use slip joint pliers, adjustables, open ended spanners....
you use what you need to gain access to ensure a secure gland.....as your circuit R2 may be depending on that alone...
