I seen somewhere not so long ago a plastic credit card size wire gauge. It had all different sized cut outs in it so you could offer up a conductor in order to correctly size it. cant find anything decent that's measured in mm.

Its just to quickly size a conductor if in doubt

make your own from a bit of metalplate' . calculate the diameter using A = Π Γ²

that's the style rsgaz, however.... £27! are they serious.

That one I linked to, I'm pretty sure that is giving the diameters, rather than the CSA.

You'd need to work it out differently for stranded if you make your own.

Do you have some digital calipers?

yeh I have some.

if such a thing doesn't exist then I think we should design and make one as a forum ;-)

hmm, a forum tried to design a dog and the result was diane abbott..

I just keep red, blue, yellow and 10mm crimps in my bag. That does me for 99% of my cable sizing issues.

yeh I have some.

Then just make a table to print out of CSA & diameter and use the calipers to check.

I can upload the xlsx file if you want it to make it look prettier or change it about a bit.

It is "high grade tool steel". If you want the best...

That said, some of the sizes are a bit odd: 2.0, 2.24, 2.5 ... 3.0, 3.15, 3.55. Anyone know why. Just curious.

New cable does but I see old cable all the time with no size info
