Could someone in the know tell me what this part might be? it is from a Baumatic gas cooker.

Might get some interesting answers asking what it 'might be'.
Looks ceramic and insulated. An ignition device - the spark jumps from the tip. Bit like an piezzo cigarette lighter
 
Could be this.............

EDIT: you said it was gas!, could be part of the gas ignition.
Best thing to do is get the cooker model number and do a web search for spares.

that's what it looks like to me. either that or your van is missing a glow plug.
 
Thanks guys! Anyone have an idea where I might find the model number?! Sorry this is so irrelevant to an electricians forum.
 
look on the inside edge of the oven door opening.
