cable jointing

Where cables have to be jointed e.g spurring from a ring final via a connection under the floor void where it will not be readily accessable in the future. What would be the best way to joint the cables as i understand a screw terminal junction box will not be acceptable .

Also crimp connections in a c/u. does it matter what colour crimps are to be used aslong as they are within their current carrying capacity. So for instance could i use yellow crimps for 1.5 mm2 t+e on 6amp m.c.b.

Best use a joint box with push fit connections as these are maintenance free! Can get them at any wholesaler.

Use red through crimps for 1.5 t&e, blue through clumps for 2.5 t&e and yellow through crimps for 6.0 t&e.

Crimp join and heat shrink but you should use the correct size for the cable, red up to 1.5, blue 2.5mm and yellow up to 6mm

I have used Line Maintenance free junction boxes (forum sponsor...) and like them.

For crimping I'd use blue or red on 1.5mm2, can't remember the size for yellow but I suspect it is too big for 1.5mm2. (4 to 6mm2 rings a bell?)

No as it has screw terminations.

If you want to use a jb you really should try those line ones from the forum sponser, i haven't used a screw terminal jb in years, the line or wago are so easy and they are mf

I have to say that for permemant underfloor applications you can't beat the Ashley Hager products.

Not if you do it properly and offset the crimps so they're not all in one place and make the cable look like a snake thats eaten a buffalo

I used the hager for a bit but i got a load of the line in and i love them, they work out a bit cheaper and i use them for joining cables, downlights, the lot, so easy
