hi i am 1st fixing a house and the owner wants a cable from roof space to mains position for furture pv system. how do i calculate cable size and type. i am not qualified in pv and will not be installing the system.

Running a 2.5mm PVC/PVC should suffice, assuming that the inverter will be mounted in the loft space (it normally is) and that the array size isn't expected to be larger than 16A (it normally isn't).

thanks for that. its a 3 bed house. i will go with a 4mm to be safe.do i need a supply in roof for inverter

No, the cable that you are running is effectively the supply to the inverter. The DC side of the installation (the panels etc.) wil be run from the inverter.

The only worry I have with that is how will the future sparks be able to sign of an EIC on the PV installation as he can not confirm how the cable is run, unless it is surface and he can inspect.
