Hey Guys,

Looking to purchase a Cable staple tacker that uses the insulated staples for clipping 2.5 & 1.5 T&E. Looking at the Arrow T72, just wondering if anyone uses them or if they are any good? or whether you end up running the risk of pinching the cable! Just trying to reduce the time crawling about clipping cables in loft spaces in the sweltering heat! Cheers

I have one. I find the spring/trigger very hard to squeeze, maybe I'm just a weakling :) That said I find it useful in certain circumstances like lofts, under caravans etc where you might only have 1 hand to use - rather than juggling a clip, a cable and a hammer. Never had an issue with catching cables with the guide on the front of the stapler.

I was shown a demo of one in the wholesalers a while ago. Looked expensive and didn't even manage to put the staples fully in to a piece of softwood! Complete waste of time in my opinion, give me a Stanley Anti Vibe and a box of clips any day, they can even be used in masonry as well!

i couldnt get them into a concrete wall one time , the last time, what do you use on old hard concrete walls??? staple gun sounds great for clipping, havent seen one and i can see a risk for busting cable or something

Practice makes perfect more often then not or aim for a motar joint as it'll be much softer then the concrete itself. Alternatively, if it's really hard masonry, drill a 5.5mm hole with your SDS, bung a red rawl plug in the hole and replace the normal nail in the clip with a plasterboard nail. A little more time consuming then just boshing a nail in but when it's really hard you'll spend far more time bending clips and getting irritated then you will drilling and plugging. The other alternative is to put a bit of wood in the hole (like the old sparks used to do before SDS and rawl plugs existed) and use the original clip nail. Sometimes doesn't work as well as the plasterboard nail but still generally a good alternative.

Run it in a piece of mini trunking, so many less holes to drill than you would use for clips, as that is the normal procedure.
