Discuss Continuity (Main Equipotential Bonding) in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

My practical for Inspection & Testing is coming up towards the end of the month and im a little unsure about how to test the main equipotential bonding for continuity.

My tutor told me that one end of the Main Bonding conductor has to be removed from the MET in order to remove any parallel paths.

The part im unsure on is exactly where to place the probes for the continuity test. Any assistance or guidance much appreciated...

Thanks for reading,

Hi there.

Basically as follows -

1. Safely isolate the supply
2. Disconnect one end of the conductor, preferably the end at the consumer unit.
3. (Null out test leads) or ( record and remember to subtract from end result)
4. Connect one test lead to the conductor at the CU
5. Connect the other test lead to the metal work of which the conductor you are testing, (ensure any painted metal work has been scratched off, to make a solid connection). By not connecting it to the clamp this will prove the clamp has a good connection to the pipework
6. Test using a low resistance ohm-meter.

The result will give the total resistance of the conductor (remembering to subtract the test lead resistance, if not previously nulled out)

7. Re connect bonding conductor
8. Job done.

Hope this helps.:)

Hi, Sounds like you need to buy a copy of the NICEIC testing book.

A great guide for the tool box.

I have just finished my 2330 and had a few points i needed to brush up on and I found it very usefull.

Cheers

Dave
