Got a CU change coming early next week, 16mm tails supplying consumer unit, protected by a 60 amp fuse at the main head, is it a requirement to upgrade to 25mm regardless of the fuse size?

16 mm tails will take 60 A no problem.

I don't know which requirement you mean unless you are looking at the OSG which I believe have a 100A main fuse which would require 25 mm tails!

Im just confirming to be honest! i was handed an EICR by the customer from his previous electrician who stated they must be upgraded, was wondering if id missed something!

previous spark need moola for holiday abroad, ergo, customer needs unnecessary work doing.

As the others have said, 25mm tails not required for 60A supply. I think the confusion comes from the OSG which works on the premise that new supplies will be 100A, hence 25mm needed.

I try to upgrade tails if possible even on a 60a supply - (I do have a 100m roll of 25mm I must add that I acquired somewhere that needs using up)
I just cost it into the job now - I believe it to be a betterments although not a necessity.

If I was replacing the tails for some reason I'd probably go for 25mm, but if there was no compelling reason to swap the tails, I'd leave them well alone!

As the others have said this myth stems from the OSGs one-size fits all solution.
Thats most likely the biggest problem with most of the comments and questions on the site, people are using the OSG as a replacement for the regs and missing the point of the last word in the title of the book.
Yes there are regulations quoted in there but with the little pictures its taken as gospel that this is how it should be.
Perhaps it would be better to call it the dummies guide but then we still have the 'G' word in there.

As far as I'm concerned the "mandatory" 25mm tails applies to rewires and new builds.....

If the OSG covered all situations it wouldn't fit in your tool bag!
