Dodgey Meggar? Recommendations for new one

Hi all

I've got a Megger MFT1721 probably around 3 years old. Was working a treat but last 3 months whenever I attempt to do end to end resistance tests readings are jumping all over place. Have bought various new leads, cleaned probe inserts, new batteries but what ever I do I'm still getting this problem. Wondered if any of you have had same issue with this tester and if there's any fix for it. Failing that anyone got any recommendations for decent tester that isn't going to break the bank, the Mettrels look pretty decent from what I've seen. I don't need all the fancy Bluetooth and wireless stuff, main spec required is chargeable, can do 2 lead ZS testing, can do low current testing so as to not trip RCD's and also auto RCD testing and can rest A type RCD's. try using the plug socket instead of the 4mm sockets. it's all parallel inside. could be a dry joint on one of them.

The only connection points on it are these Tel. I've got the three prong socket tester but that won't prove anything as using same terminals.

use the socket tester in the 3 prong socket. croc clip a length of cable across L & E on the 1363 plug. if readings are then stable it could be a dry joint on the 4mm's. if still fluctuating, could be where the connect to the PCB. worth a try at opening it up. alternatively, The Calibration Centre in Stafford do a repair for about £145 + vat ( inc. return shipping i think).

if you're giving up on it, I'd buy it off you at a reasonable price, more than scrap value. ??

That 3 pronged socket is not for the plug cable lead thingy on the 1700 series, like it was on the 1500 series.

Actually I got this wrong. It's for connection of a current clamp:

Cheeky fooker ? but thanks for the heads up on repair centre might be more cost effective to get them to look at it

The switched probe goes in the brown socket.

Thanks for heads up Radiohead. Been checking out the Metrel but doesn't seem to test B type RCD's could need this for EV installs. Seems like one I have fits the full bill if wasn't playing up might see if can get repaired

I do believe Megger provide a fixed rate repair service for approx £260 ish - surely worth asking Megger?
Would also come back calibrated

i think the calibration centre do a fixed rate repair, but it's a lot less c. £145.
