Hi,

I had the house re-wired in 2018. I have taken the kitchen out and have found a new earth cable was installed but is not connected to anything.

What purpose would this have? Is it for earthing the plumbing?

Thanks,
Hadley

Older properties that had copper water pipes entering the property need to be “bonded”…. Which is a fancy word for earthed….
Also metal gas pipes, structural steel… any big lump of metal that goes outside.

Standard size would be 10.0mm squared which looks about 7mm in diameter.

The electrician that rewired possibly put it in not knowing that the water pipe now may be plastic, or he’s so “old school” he does it out of habit.
