Hi Hello I have recently passed the part P course and I am in the process of registering with niceic I have recently been asked if I would inspect and test a house and issue a electrical installation certificate as they have been asked for one due to them moving I'm not sure we're I stand on doing this.

can any body help.

Thank you.

The part p is part of the competent person scheme witch allows you to work on domestic properties and to certify your own work providing you join a governing body like niceic, napit, eca.

thanks

do a EICR. trhat means you are diong a test/inspection of the installation and not putting your name to someone else's work.

Hi, have you only done part p? Or a domestic installers corse? Getting back to your OP as I've said before in a previous post you need to be competent city and guilds do a corse called the 2395 which relates to electrical installation condition reports.....stick to new installations if you have only done a DI corse as this is initial verification not periodic testing.

Hi the course was the part p full scope and according to the niceic once I registered they will send an inspector out to check my work so I can be registered as a competent person.

Without wishing to sound bitchy, if you have just passed your "part p" do you consider yourself competent to inspect and test peoples homes?

You have answered your own question here you said it allows you to sign off your own work but in you op you state that they want a electrical installation certificate which would mean you signing off some one else's work

Do you have a lot of testing and inspection experience or a relevant qualification such as the 2391 or 2395? If not you are not competent to test, inspect and issue a report on the condition of an electrical installation.

Hi if I am honest on the installation side I feel I am competent installer but due to he lack of inspection an testing knowledge than no I would be working from the regs book on a step by step basis .

Thanks for your comment.

Having just finished your 5 day wonder course, I beg to differ! You haven't even begun to scratch the surface. I would personally recommend getting some work as a mate for an experienced spark before you go working on peoples homes.

No you won't, you'll be winging it, I doubt you'll be able to even interpret 90% of what the regs book tells you. You might be able to kid the unsuspecting public that you know what you're doing but you can't fool us.

You asked a forum full of experienced sparks where we think you stand on testing, inspecting and reporting on the condition of electrical installations and you were told quite clearly that you are not yet competent to do so to which your response is essentially 'I'll do it anyway'. If this is truly your attitude then you are a disgrace to the industry and nothing but a charlatan.

Rant over :banghead:

Gasp!!!!!!, a 5 day part p course is not a course which will make you become an electrician FFS, how many more of these threads do we have to put up with here, and to add a 17th edition course won't give you any qualifications or experience either.

Im slightly confused by your post, and the others that post like you...i just want to know, because i can't for the life of me understand....what the F goes through your mind to think your competent after such a short meaningless course ?

Please, please, please reply because im slowly losing the will to live with this industry.

Obviouslly didn't read this when i just posted my mini-rant.

If you were under no illusion that you were capable of doing an EIC then why post this thread in the first place.

No, you haven't told us your line of work - and for all we know you could have been an electricians mate for years and years and years - however you didn't state this, and along with your OP then people understandingly assume otherwise.

The part-p course certificate is the most meaningless piece of paper i can think of.
