fein multimaster or makita 18V multi tool?

that aldi one looks good. i've just reccomended it to all the joiners/plumbers and electricians i know who keep asking to borrow mine! and i'll certainly be getting some blades for a tenner, how bad can they be?

I used a cheap mains version of these last week and it was a god send, on a workshop refit chopping boxes out in walls with plaster board and 1" ply behind. Saved loads of time and it was a neat finish, bloody noisy though! What do you lads think of the Makita 18V now that you've had it a while? As good as the mains Fein or not? How long do the battery's last approximately? Can't decide on the convenience of 18V or mains power.
Been looking at the Fein starter kit for £139 + Vat or bare Makita for around £110.

my makita broke, but was repaired under warranty.
i think they are spot on, can't beat cordless stuff for convienience. theres no difference between power output from mains, the batteries last long enough for whatever i'm doing.
what i will say is don't treat it as a replacement for a circular saw, just use it for the jobs that nothing else can do otherwise it costs a fortune in blades, takes longer and you will hammer the multitool (or break it like I did)

Shop around before you purchase. We picked up one of the Makitas on Friday for £90 at our local tool place. Just waiting for the adapter to be delivered so we can try it out (we too have the 240v Fein and a ton of blades for it).

Hi, I'm new to the forum but bare with me,
I have loads of makita gear, all 18V, also a 36V SDS with a converter so you can power it with 2 18V batterys.
As far as the multi tool is concerned, it is an absolute godsend in my opinion. I bought it as a bare tool about a year ago and it hasn't missed a beat. Long gone are the days of using a jabsaw to cut rough boxes into drywall etc as this tool cuts boxes beautifully. I use the sanding pad for putting nice smooth edges on back boards for CUs. The smaller blades are great for little access holes and the larger wood/metal blades are the mutts for taking out floorboards (I have blunted a wood blade doing this and hitting a nail so hence wood/metal) As other guys have said everyone ends up wanting to borrow it. I have bought other versions as presents for my brother and dad (erbauer 10.8V and a green bosch corded) and they are still really decent but the 18V power behind the makita and the 22 min charge time of my batteries puts it streets ahead of the others that i've come across!
