A job ive looked at is on a slate roof the owner has proposed to design an aluminium frame which will bolt to the two chimneys in the middle of the roof then bolt to the underside of the gutter onto the house. Can the array be bolted to a secure frame which is fixed to the house rather than the roof joists? i look forward to your input!!

Without knowing all the details - suffice to say it would have to be agreed with a structural engineer, building control, (regardless of the loading), planning control and the manufacturers of the system. If it was me I would ask the client to deal with 1, 2 and 3 and I would ask the suppliers/manufacturers but I would be amazed if it didnt have an implication for their warranty. Good luck!

The owner was going to try and not touch the slate. I recommened that he used the fixings designed for slate and have a roofer to do all the slate work (been quoted £1200 for the roof work)
