Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a few people to answer this to give me a wider guide.
A fellow spark as been tasked with supplying a per metre price for 20mm Galvanised conduit installed.
So labour, conduit, bends, couplers, saddles, no cable though.
Its a genuine one where a customer as asked him but he mainly deals with fire although he is originally a yeb spark.
So come on lads how much would you charge as a per metre cost. This isn't for any one specific job so you have to consider some jobs will be a breeze and some could be a pig of a job.
Ive discussed a price with him but I don't want to sway anyone's opinion.

Impossible. It could be straight runs just clip and straight on. It could be bends all over the place. You couldn't average it out as a straight run job would be overly expensive and a complex job poorly paid. But if you said sq m. then I would go in at per 50 Sq m. £1000.

£6 to £8 per meter

and i agree with ipf below, i would put that as an estimate with a quote to follow if required.

There are too many factors involved, I agree. Besides bends, saddles, etc, there's also the situation. It could be really 'up in the air'......if it actually is at height.
I can't really see how you can quote with an 'area' method.
If you went in with an estimate, rather than quote, maybe an hour per length + mats, for starters, see how it goes. Have to be some leeway, though.

Divide it by 4.......per metre, maybe?

I'm all for 'standard pricing' and I use it wherever I can... but with something like galv... it can vary too much... and I don't do anywhere near enough of it to be able to derive a standard price. My pricing even factors in how far away I have to park the van !

I agree with all answer so far, I said the same to him that there were too many variables. He did give a price but I'll wait to see if anymore answers come forward.

Just spoke ti my dad who used to do lots and lots of metal containment on price , he reckons in today’s money £16 per mtr for 20 mm steel conduit...

Interesting thread this as I have the same dilemma. Need to run some conduit in a car park for an EV Charger. Trying to work out price per metre or overall price for containment. Got 2 sets and 3 bends. Got no idea of going rate per metre etc as the small amount of metal conduit I do install is usually a small part of a larger job.

Out of curiosity , have you ever known of a charger and fittings in this type of installation be stolen?

Bit strange that "no cable" bit, is someone else going to put the cable in? Impossible anyway as some parts you have to put in the cable before assembling. Thinking about my price of £1000 per 50 sq. m. that would/could equate to 40 linear meters. 1000 / 40 = £25 per linear meter. Looking at it another way to set/bubble/straight run one length of 3m galv and accessory on end, =£75 with labourer/improver that sounds about right to me on £35 per hour. But then again if the wiring was included it would have to go up some. So I would settle on cabling as well £35 per linear meter.

Yes. The older Rolec units were being stolen. Some thieving so and so was also going around cutting the leads off as they fetch £100+ on eBay. Replaced several last.2 years.
With the newer smart ones and ones linked to cloud it's possible for manufacturers to remotely disable them.if connected to internet again. A stolen unit wouldn't get olev grant as they log all serial numbers. The parts inside a charger would no doubt fetch good money on eBay if broken up.

@Gavin John Hyde . Thank you for your reply.
It is good to see that the cash value of them is making it less attractive for the thieves.
I also wondered if the car is also a target as the batteries are worth a bit too.

During the high copper prices a few years ago, the thieves were stealing the tails to the earth rods from the Miners rows of houses. The back doors opened onto the footpaths. The average tail would be about one foot long. Repaired and gone again almost immediately.

3.75m per length......I think I'd be regarded as taking the pee at nearly 100 squid a length.....if we're talking big numbers, at least.
It all depends on the degree of difficulty, though.......straight run, 4 saddles and one length....churn plenty of those out per hour.
Machine install, 2 lengths, 2 boxes, a couple of bends (generally natural for me), couplings, bushes......at least four hours. A day, at least, including for adaptation, wiring and completion.
Regarding putting cable in before installing, never done that. Some sort of pre wired kit system, maybe.

I have never done anything but a trivial bit of such metalwork, but I wondered about the whole "cable installing at the time" business. I can see it might be easier in some cases, but one of conduit's main selling point that you can rewire later.

In which case the whole design should be such that you have enough access points in sane location that you can wire it after completion of the metal-bashing stage?

Also out of curiosity I wonder what/how the like of @Megawatt would price for this, given it is very common in the USA to use EMT?

£25.57 for 2021

See below prices for 2018, I have upped these with an ap of 4% each year.
I usually overestimate by ~8% on overall price, usually a bid price will come in at 15%-20% lower than my estimate, but with the variations etc during the build it usually settles 5-10% below my estimates.

Sorry, forgot to add the regional adjustment, but I don't know where you are quoting for so anywhere between 1.05 and 0.75 factor, but you will know your local factor I assume

Nicely done Julie.

Couple of questions, what protection class does this Galvanised conduit have to achieve?

Is flexible Galvanised conduit acceptable? (much cheaper)
