Hello folks plumber here from the sister forum got a problem with the lights in my house

basically they keep blowing, and it tends to happen at night when everything else is off(around 2am) living room light, kitchen light, bathroom light. The fuse board is an old one with fuse wire fuses, that's about as much as i know.

thanks in advance

it's common for blowing lights to trip a breaker. not so common with a fuse. i would suspect poor connections, either the lampholders themselves, or in the roses.

i see its the same as the plumbing forum then with quick responses :) thanks for the offer but my mate is an electrician so if anyone will be doing it it will be him, any reason why it only seems to happen at night when everything else is off ?

yeah my friend said that it might take him hours and he didnt sound to chuffed about doing it haha, no particular reaon then why it only happens at night ?

as above.^^^ could possibly be lower ambient temperature at night, or possibly the fact that as demand on the supply is less at that time, you may have a higher voltage than daytime.

This kind of fault needs an insulation tester and someone who's very capable of using it. It's not the kind of problem you're going to easily sort out without experience I'm afraid. I would certainly stock up on tea and biscuits and tempt your buddy to come around with his tools and testers.

Probably happens at night because its dark and they are on for longer therefore seems they only blow at night???

GU10 often blow fuses/trips, try fitting a LED style lamp instead.

it happens when everyone is in bed, everything is off, i go downstairs to get a drink of water or something and flick the switch then it blows

I bought some really good value lamps from eBay, they would blow like Linda Lovelace.

On the same trail of thought, now that picture is in your mind, are the lights under your bedroom and subject to excessive vibration?
